ABOUT THE ARTIST

Steve Alpert, Painter

Putting paint on canvas is everything to me. The images I make in oil paint are my ambassadors of love, honor and respect for all life. The surface of the canvas is the focal point of my hopes, dreams, aspirations. It is that precise place in the physical world where I express my deepest passions for the beauty of this Earth. Communicated through the layers of ground-up minerals are images that bring honor and respect to the lionhearted individuals who serve others, extolling the virtues of ordinary people who deliberately put themselves into extraordinary circumstances.

I am a native New Yorker, and worked for many years as a television editor/producer/director before turning to painting full-time. My artwork covers a wide range of subject matter including land/sea/skyscapes, military, abstract, and portraiture. I would best describe myself as a non-conformist who draws from many different moments in my life that have inspired and shaped my work. Painting is my reverie, my serenity, my never-ending pursuit of who I am.

I believe my Contemporary American Military paintings are the foundation of my collection, and a reflection of a defining chapter in my life. These are paintings I feel compelled to make to raise consciousness about men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. These paintings have also created welcome opportunities for me to give back—through donations of my artwork. I have been able to directly support causes that aid the men and women of our military and their families, including the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation and Fisher House Foundation. Most recently I was honored to receive a nomination for the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s Distinguished Citizen Award.

I am also an adjunct professor of art to veterans at Fordham University and currently reside with my wife between our two homes in Manhattan and Quogue, Long Island.
